Mother of all I survey. [Oct. 9th, 2008|12:24 pm]

Just put down Finn. Will's been asleep for twenty minutes or so. Finn'll wake up in a minute, but for a few seconds, I got to pat myself on the back. :)

Will had a rough day at school; he was throwing things and didn't listen and ended up in time out. I honestly think it was lack of sleep; he was up early and had a bad dream last night. Still, I'll do plenty of reminding to not throw things before school next week. He made a ladybug...it's something less than a complete success, to be honest, but he WAS having a rough day.

Maybe a voice post later if I can get all the stars to line up correctly. Meantime, I better go work on Finn some more.

About an hour later, and I'm back, with Finn finally down. He took so long because he pooped and I missed it. Phoo.
Watched Oprah on saving money...I already do/have done most of the stuff talked about. *sigh*
I am thinking about creative ways to get rid of all our excess stuff, so how about some opinions from you on these?

First idea: Auction it off locally instead of a garage sale. Reasoning: People have a different mindset at auctions than at garage sales. Going through and sorting the stuff is something we don't really have time for or, frankly, ability to do. This assumes the auctioneers will take care of that for us, which I have to research.

Second idea: Make a post on Craigslist and/or a webpage with a general list of what all we have. Let people make offers, cash as well as barter. I could put a list of things we want/need up as well. Offhand, we need some electrical work done in the house. We also would like to turn out kitchen window into a back door, which would also require lengthening the deck to meet the new door. I will eventually need clothes (5T and up) for the boys. We could also take things we know we'll use and will keep, like toilet paper, water, etc. And then there's everything on our Amazon wishlists, all of which is "want", but hey. Biggest problem with this idea is that I really can't make a detailed list of everything we have and want to get rid of.

Well, I guess I only have two ideas, besides the usual "yet another garage sale" idea. I was going to Ebay some stuff, but I don't have time or the will and it doesn't seem worth it, really.

Here's what I know we have to get rid of off the top of my head: couch and love seat (old, sofa in bad shape on one end), an ancient console TV, a more recent TV (I think, unless we already got rid of it), a smaller black and grey entertainment center, tons of clothes, mostly women's plus, mostly in good to very good condition, some men's large/medium, some used shoes, a lot of knick-knacks and decor, some toys, a few bits of jewelry, lots of this and that, bits and bobs. Oh, and probably some art and some (mostly not in good shape) bedding.

I can't bring myself to just let it all go...ultimately, there's hundreds, maybe even thousands, of dollars worth of stuff down there. I feel like I need to get SOMETHING for it all, you know? Especially considering how desperately in need of cash we are.
